Apple is reportedly exploring the launch of an ad tier for its streaming service Apple TV+, according to reports.
The Daily Telegraph reported that Apple has held talks with the UK’s TV ratings body Barb to discuss potential options for tracking advertising for Apple TV+.
Apple already monitors the time viewers spend watching Apple TV+ content, the Telegraph noted, but the tech giant would need to add more “data collection techniques” for advertisers.
The company is said to be considering a cheaper tier than its standard £8.99 per month Apple TV+ subscription, or could even introduce ads to existing subscribers.
If so, it would follow in the footsteps of the likes of Netflix, Amazon, Disney and Warner Bros Discovery by offering a cheaper package price for subscriptions with adverts included.
Netflix will launch its Basic with Adverts tier in the UK on November 3 this year. Basic with Adverts will cost £4.99 a month in the UK and will give users the opportunity to watch all of Netflix’s content, only with adverts.
The ‘Basic with Adverts’ tier is available in countries including the US, and now accounts for 45% of all new signups where it’s available.
